17 december 2012 — Idag publicerar World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) den fullständiga definitionen av HTML5 och specifikationen av Canvas 2D. Även om de ännu inte är W3C-standarder, har dessa specifikationer nu sin fulla funktionalitet, vilket betyder att näringsliv och utvecklare nu kan planera för och implementera mot ett stabilt mål. HTML5 är en hörnsten i den öppna webbplattformen, som är en komplett utvecklingsmiljö för tillämpningar på alla plattformar, och som ger tillgång till apparatens olika funktionella delar; video och animering; grafik; formatering; typografi och andra verktyg för digital publicering; omfattande nätverksförmåga; med mera.
"Ju mer webbteknologi kan användas, desto mera kräver våra intressenter en stabil standard ," säger W3C:s CEO Jeff Jaffe. "Från och med idag vet näringslivet hur de kan använda HTML5 under kommande år, och vad deras kunder kommer att kräva. På samma sätt kan utvecklare nu se vilka kunskapsområden de behöver förkovra sig i, för att kunna skapa innehåll för smarta telefoner, e-böcker, digitala skyltar, och apparater som vi ännu inte har en aning om."
W3C har idag även meddelat att första utkast av HTML 5.1 och Canvas 2D, Level 2, en tidig glimt av vad nästa omgång av standardisering kan innehålla. W3C:s intressenter fortsätter att förbättra existerande HTML-funktionaliteter och utveckla nya, bland annat utvidgningar som skall komplettera inbyggd tillgänglighet i HTML5, reaktiva bilder, och adaptiv strömning.
Senaste framstegen i teknologi och en livaktig webbläsarmarknad har utgjort en källa för avsevärd innovation, som till stor del nu blivit inkorporerat i HTML5 och relaterade teknologier. I en nyligen gjord undersökning, utförd av Kendo, om användargränssnitt, där fler än 4000 utvecklare tillfrågats, har 63 procent angett att de nu "aktivt utvecklar med HTML5." Men samma undersökning visar också att "webbläsarfragmentering" fortfarande är ett bekymmer för utvecklare, eftersom det ökar kostnader och komplexitet för att använda en teknologi.
För att minska webbläsarfragmentering och utvidga implementationer till den fulla uppsättningen verktyg som konsumerar och producerar HTML, har nu W3C initierat den fas av W3C-standardisering som inriktas på interoperabilitet och testning (kallad "Candidate Recommendation").
Under denna fas kommer W3C:s arbetsgrupp för HTML genomföra ett antal aktiviteter för att säkerställa att specifikationerna kan implementeras på ett kompatibelt sätt i webbläsare, författarverktyg, e-post-klienter, servers, innehållsförvaltningssystem och andra webbverktyg. Gruppen kommer att analysera dagens HTML5-implementationer, fastställa prioriteter för utveckling av tester, och arbeta tillsammans med webbintressenter för att utveckla sådana tester. Arbetsgruppen för HTML har planerat att denna implementeringsfas kommer att sträcka sig till mitten av 2014, och därefter förväntar sig W3C att publicera den slutgiltiga HTML5-standarden, som kommer att tillhandahållas avgiftsfritt till utvecklare i enlighet med W3C:s patentpolicy.
Arbetsgruppen för HTML är inte ensamma om att arbeta för att HTML5 och den bredare öppna webbplattformen skall bli en framgång. Till exempel håller Web Performance Working Group — som idag publicerade två webbstandarder (W3C Recommendations) om hur man kan få tillgång till prestandamått — på att ta fram teknologier för att mäta och förbättra prestanda hos webbtillämpningar; de har nyligen annonserat insikter från en workshop i november. Intressegruppen för webben och TV, och intressentgruppen för mobila webben har prioriterat testning som ett sätt att stödja användning på en växande uppsättning apparater.
Många personer från W3C:s medlemmar, från staben, och från den stora gruppen av granskare, har bidragit till de specifikationer som publiceras idag.
W3C är tacksamt för det arbete som Ian Hickson (Google) bidragit med, i egenskap att ha varit redaktör för HTML5-specifikationen under praktiskt taget hela detta arbete.
W3C tackar även för det fortsatta ledarskap som utövats av ordförandena i arbetsgruppen för HTML: Paul Cotton (Microsoft), Sam Ruby (IBM) och Maciej Stachowiak (Apple). Tack ges även till dagens redaktörer som kommer att vägleda specifikationen fram till webbstandard (W3C Recommendation).
Sist, men inte minst, tackas även alla de organisationer och individer som deltagit i arbetsgruppen för HTML, och som investerat omfattande tid och energi, och för deras engagemang i arbetet.
W3C är ett internationellt konsortium där konsortiets medlemmar, en heltidsanställd stab och andra intresserade arbetar tillsammans för att utveckla webbstandarder. W3C:s huvudsakliga verksamhet är att ta fram webbstandarder samt riktlinjer, råd och anvisningar som säkerställer webbens långsiktiga tillväxt. ACCESS is pleased to see this HTML5 Candidate Recommendation. We think HTML5 is useful as a single approach to connect servers and all client devices.
These are not only for Cloud, PC and Smart Phone but also for Embedded Devices without any plugins. We implemented HTML5 technologies to various embedded devices, and started a lot of services by it. Furthermore, there will be many enhanced technologies defined in WGs, these will be equipped on them, too, to realize leading-edge services.
